Fixing Couch Tv bugs

After some emails back and forth with customers and rapid bug fixing over the Tv launch weekend, Couch Tv 1.2 will provide additional support for the following servers:

  • Kodi
  • Serviio
  • Twonky
  • TVMobili

All of these cases involved a bug in my SSDP parsing implementation which is now fixed. In the case of Twonky, I had to break out tcpdump and inspect the packets from my PS4 to figure out what I was missing. Turns out, some servers respond to different search queries. So I was able to use a search query that works across the board.

Plex Twonky TVMobili

One nice thing about Couch Tv is that it can pick up and use multiple servers on the same network

Plex Kodi

Plex Serviio

After fixing bugs and improving network discovery, most other DLNA servers should be discovered just fine.

Introducing Couch Tv for the new AppleTv

I have always loved movies and going to the movies (right up until they started showing 20 minutes of commercials before a showing ) and have over 100 Blu-ray and DVD disks.

I have had an Tv since the very beginning and once I started ripping my DVDs and Blu-ray disks, I ended up buying a Roku 3 as the previous AppleTv didn’t allow for 3rd party apps such as Plex.

After receiving an Tv devkit, I immediately thought about building an dlna/UPnP compatible player so I can access my movies and videos.

What you see above is Couch Tv 1.1 ( In app review as of this writing) connected to a Plex server over my home network.

CouchTvFolders

Couch 1.0 still has the older interface and layout, but this new one seems to flow better with servers with many folders such as Plex.
